Boosting vs. Advertising on Facebook
Table of Contents
According to the help section within Facebook, “While boosting a post is still considered an ad, Facebook ads are created through Ads Manager and offer more advanced customization solutions. There are many advertising objectives to help you reach your specific business goals and the audiences you care about most.” Here we break out the differences between boosting vs. advertising on Facebook.
What is Facebook Advertising and How Does it Work?
Facebook ads are when you are paying to have your message out there. The campaign gets created to help reach your business goal.
You would want to create campaigns for things like a new location, rebranding, bigger sales, and anything where the messaging is relevant for longer periods of time. This can include something more celebratory or a big announcement.
There are a couple of different options when it comes to Facebook Advertising:
- The simple route – boost organic posts
- Create ads specific to what you’re trying to achieve
If you have a larger audience, the chances are greater, but it’s also less likely to get great engagement as you’re likely to reach strangers. The boost would hit an audience who might’ve already heard of you, so boosts act as a reminder.
What Are Boosted Posts?
Facebook boosting is when you create an ad directly from a post found on your Facebook page. Boosts are effective for short more localized messages and if you want to simply increase your following and get more engagement via contests, etc.
Think of a boost as a “by the way, we do these things you should know about”. They help reach new people who may show interest in your business but don’t follow you.
What you choose will depend on the content and your budget.
Don’t get the two confused. While boosting can be good, there is so much more you can do with Facebook advertising. You can capture a lot more attention from your audience.
